Project Labor Agreement
Orange County Community College - Newburgh Campus
This $85 million project consisting of a new academic building and campus upgrade is being constructed using a Project Labor Agreement.
Newburgh Enlarged City School District
A PLA was used to complete the $50 million project, including repair, renovation and additions to 14 school buildings. The jobs included about four acres of roof renovations and asbestos remediation. The project was completed on time and within budget.
“The union members helped us to explore various initiatives. They made valuable contributions to planning the upgrades by providing us with information and insight into the construction process.”
Annette Saturnelli, Superintendent of Schools
Stewart International Airport
There is an endless list of projects at Stewart completed by the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council and its signatory contractors. Highlighted projects include: the air traffic control tower, terminal expansion and renovations, airline fits ups and expansions and upgrades to the runway and its lighting.
“Using local labor has been very beneficial in the redevelopment of Stewart Airport. The quality of construction has been good and the cooperative spirit of the workers has allowed us to move forward with some difficult and complicated construction. Most of our contracts have been brought in ontime and within budget.”
Charles Seliga, Managing Director
IBM Annex 323
This 74,000 square foot PLA expansion to an existing chip fabrication factory required workers with advanced technical skills such as welding for the building’s nitrogen purge system. More than 600 miles of network cable were installed.
“We chose to use a PLA on Phases One and Two (of the IBM Annex) because (we knew) there will be no labor or jurisdictional disputes on the project, no stoppages or slow-downs. The bottom line is that PLAs reduce risk factors for contractors and owners.”
Jonathon Holder, Manager of Major Site Construction
St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital
More than 200 union craftsman worked on this $16.8 million PLA. The 550 parking space facility replaces an older 183 open parking lot and provides direct skyway connection to the hospital. Excellent coordination with the general contractor got the project completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
“Local union labor does all our construction. On this project they built new emergency rooms, medical office building and garage. It’s a true community partnership.”
Allan E. Atzrott, President
Marlboro Schools
The Marlboro Central School District conducted a three year, $33 million dollar PLA upgrade to three schools. Phase One finished ahead of schedule and below budget. Phases Two and Three were on time and within budget.
“The unions were very responsive to our needs. They worked extended hours to ensure that we were ready for the students on the first day.“
Neysa Sensenig, Business Administrator
